Citizens of another kingdom

Who God is and what he has done through the person of Jesus, shapes every part of me. I have been given the greatest news, the most freeing truth... How can I not share that with others?

This ministry was started to help people seeking to build Christ-Centred Communities, and is full of FREE resources.

It also "seeded" a number of other movements since 2007.

I help lead a network of micro-churches spread around Adelaide. Different expressions of one church. No buildings and no staff.

We work as missionaries with Power To Change, as part of the Church Movements strategy.  Here is a short video explaining what we do...

The truth about God

shapes who we are and what we do...

GOD IS GREAT... SO I DO NOT HAVE TO BE IN CONTROL
Great - God is Bigger, Mightier, Stronger than any other person or situation in the universe.
He controls all things, knows all things and has absolute power.

What happens when we don’t believe this…
  • We will be over-controlling and feel like it is our role to fix others.
  • We will want immediately to correct every error for fear people might go astray or that we might lose control, so we do not give people time to grow.
  • When we share about God, we will be intense and overbearing causing people to switch off when we talk.
  • We fear what might happen to others, so we talk at them. We do not give them space to change or to disagree. “we have to Teach them”
  • We will not take risks with people or situations because the thing we fear most is looking like a failure - Creativity dies.
  • We might be indecisive, because we fear making the wrong choice.
  • We don't trust others to do God’s work because we are scared they might do it wrong, so we just do things ourselves.
What it looks like when we believe this…
  • We become relaxed and patient.
  • We will give people space to change and time to grow.
  • When we talk with people, we will not feel the need to sort everything out in one go. We listen well.
  • We will give others a chance to talk and space to disagree.
  • We will be able to take risks because we trust the outcomes to God’s sovereign care.
  • We will give away power and responsibility because we do not think everything depends on us.
GOD IS GLORIOUS... SO I DO NOT HAVE TO FEAR OTHERS
Glorious - The word Glory means “weighty” - of utmost importance, a person of powerful influence,
whose opinion matters most. Someone who is worth worshiping… is that how you see God?

What happens when we don’t believe this…
  • If we fear people more than we fear God, then we might be reluctant to speak the truth.
  • We will not confront people because we are worried they might dislike us or reject us.
  • We might avoid conflict and any difficult decisions to prevent upsetting people.
  • We might second guess what people are thinking, because we are trying to anticipate what will please them.
  • A fearful person will always be glancing around at others to gauging their reaction.
  • We will treat public sins more seriously than other sins because we are driven by people’s opinions.
  • we gravitate toward activities that are up front. If our goal is to be admired, people’s opinions will matter more than God’s opinion.
  • We become a slave to praise.
What it looks like when we believe this…
  • We will not be controlled by other people. Only then, in fact, are we truly free to serve them in love.
  • When we are controlled by the opinions of others, we do for them so we can win their good opinion. Our actions are self-serving. Our aim is a good reputation.
  • Only when the glory of God sets us free from the fear of man can we serve others in love. Then we are free to speak the truth people need to hear, not what they want to hear, and we ourselves can be vulnerable before others, rejoicing in God’s vindication or justification.
GOD IS GOOD... SO I DO NOT HAVE TO LOOK ELSEWHERE
Good - How would you describe something that is sooo Good? Think of a food you tasted, a deep friendship
that has lasted years, a movie that you got lost in. Something that is Good, satisfies us (for a while).
We have this constant desire to be satisfied. God is everything that is Good.

What happens when we don’t believe this…
If we do not believe that God is good and the one who truly satisfies, then
  • We will be reluctant to serve, do the minimum, or serve begrudgingly or only out of guilt.
  • We may view loving our neighbours and serving God as a burden.
  • People might find us unapproachable because they pick up signals that we do not want to be bothered.
  • We may look for satisfaction in other things or not stick to tasks we dislike or always move on to a new thing.
  • We will not do the hard work of hanging out with people we are not naturally attracted to or get along with.
  • We will avoid difficult conversations and messy people. Instead we will be interested in doing only what is fun and what we want to do.
What it looks like when we believe this…
  • If, however, we find joy in God, then we will serve with passion and enthusiasm.
  • We will be characterised by generosity, simplicity, and energy.
  • Our lives will be kind and welcoming.
  • We will be content with whatever situation we find ourselves in, whether we have a lot or have nothing.
GOD IS GRACIOUS... SO I DO NOT HAVE TO PROVE myself
Gracious - means 'to favour' or ‘to show kindnesses’ to someone who doesn’t deserve it.
It is ‘the action of being compassionate.’

What happens when we don’t believe this…
  • We will overwork and make others feel guilty through our high expectations.
  • We might envy others who are more successful or take pride in our own achievements.
  • We will take criticism badly, being defensive or defeated, because our identity is tied up in our achievements and not in Christ’s achievements on our behalf.
  • We become busy and stressed - We do not model good news to people.
  • We will think behavior matters more than motives, and will condemn who don’t measure up to our standards.
  • We will impose a set of expectations on other people that wear them down.
  • We will be joyless
  • We will struggle with being vulnerable and honest in fear that our sins might be exposed.
  • We may not ask people hard questions about their spiritual life for fear of being asked in return.
What it looks like when we believe this…
  • If we rest on the grace of God and find our identity in Christ, then our lives and ministry will be characterized by peace and rest, joy and freedom, confidence and humility, compassion and kindness.
  • We will not rejoice when others fail. Our concern will be to bless rather than to impress.
  • We will not need the affirmation of other people, and we will be free from the need to defend ourselves.
  • There will be a transparency and vulnerability about our lives because we do not feel the need to hide our sin.
  • We will create a context in which other people feel able to share their struggles.

There is a kingdom, where all are welcome.
Those who are citizens never need to prove themselves or justify themselves
...It has already been done on their behalf.

They carry no guilt. They carry no shame
...it has been carried and ended by another.
Yet, they will never need to re-pay the one who carried their burden
...and they couldn't even if they tried.

The citizens are accepted, treasured and given purpose,
Not because of anything they have done or haven't done,
But simply because their King loves them.
He pursues them.
He saves them and renews them daily.

They find fulfilment, that lasts longer than a season.
They need not look anywhere else to be satisfied.
In their pain, he comforts them.
When betrayed, he identifies with them.
Through suffering they are never alone.

This King see his citizens as his own children, His family.
Each one adopted, into undeserved inheritance.
This Kingdom is here right now, but not fully seen.
To any who desire this Good King to transform their hearts, these gates wide open.

How do we enter?

We die to ourselves and become alive in their maker and saviour.

But you and I can not do that alone.
We can not muster the power to conqour death.

So our King does this for those who turn to him and follow his good and perfect ways.
And he give us a guide to stay true to his kingdom ways.

Interested?
God made all things to reflect his character, power and creativity.
But he made us, uniquely in His image.
Designed with purpose, created for his plans.

He the loving father, we the treasured children.

But we want to be God and daily turn our hearts from the life giver.
Yet He Pursues us and made a way to redeem his Image bearers.

Jesus.

Because of Jesus, our hearts can turn to the life giver.
We can live as we were originally designed, empowered by His Spirit.
With God as loving Lord of every area of our lives.

Followers of Christ can confidently say...
Picture

And Jesus wants all his image bearers to be experience the fullness of his life.
He has called us to be part of His great story.
Step in. Play the part you were created for.

Just as God pursued our stubborn hearts through his son Jesus.
He wants to pursue the lost through the leading of his Spirit.

Not to Judge people,
Not to "correct" people
or even to "fix" people

...But to Love them regardless of their actions
and to point them to God's truth.

That is our role.
That is the true meaning of being the church.

His spirit transforms hearts and builds His kingdom.
We get to
Bless and Serve others because we have been infinitely
blessed and served through the love of our saviour Jesus Christ.

Now that is Good News.
